MEET MARI
Maricarmen López is a Showrunner, Producer, and Media Executive who has spent over 15 years creating culture-shifting television and storytelling that amplifies untapped voices. She has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment, from Fat Joe to Meagan Good to Marcus Lemonis, while delivering content across platforms including FOX, MTV, VH1, Starz, BET, Netflix, and more.
Her career has been defined by moments that changed the cultural conversation. She was part of the original team behind Love & Hip Hop, helping grow it from a modest series into a global franchise and launching Cardi B’s television career in the process. She developed and oversaw Love & Hip Hop: Miami, the franchise’s first Latin-focused installment, which spotlighted Afro-Latinx narratives and expanded the brand’s reach to new audiences. At Paramount Global, she steered Black Ink Crew: Compton through a full network reboot as Black Ink Crew: LA during COVID and corporate restructuring, and later guided Caught in the Act: Unfaithful through its transition to MTV, delivering both a successful season and the franchise’s first spinoff. More recently, she produced The Fixer (FOX, Hulu, FOX Business), Fat Joe Talks (Starz), and a digital series with NBA star Sebastian Telfair documenting his journey before his stint in prison.
Before television, Mari’s roots were in music. She began at Slip-N-Slide Records in Miami, where she rose to lead the management division and oversee R&B group Jagged Edge. She went on to spend over a decade supporting Hip-Hop legend Slick Rick, helping guide his brand, advocacy efforts, and 23 year immigration battle that culminated in U.S. citizenship.
Mari’s passion for storytelling runs deep, beginning as a performing artist herself and continuing through her role as VP of the Algo Nuevo Foundation, founded by her mother, which provides music therapy to seniors in Miami. Across every chapter of her career, Mari has been committed to pushing boundaries, championing authenticity, and creating content that doesn’t just entertain but drives culture, builds community, and sparks movements.
Today, through MCL Media, she is developing new projects with leading talent and IP partners, consulting with media companies and creators, and expanding her mission to tell stories that merge creativity, commerce, and culture for lasting impact.
